Experimental Investigation on the Response of Elliptical CFT Columns Subjected to Lateral Impact Loading

This study reports an experimental investigation on the impact behavior of elliptical concrete-filled steel tubular (CFT) columns subjected to lateral loading. A total five CFT columns, including one circular cross-section and four cross-sections, were tested using a horizontal-impact-testing system. The influences velocity, times, geometry dynamic response analyzed. results have shown that specimens withstood global displacements without buckling tubes. strain rates tubes in this paper small. velocity had significant load-time histories energy absorption. Meanwhile, times little influence force displacement at same velocity. Circular highest ductility impact-energy-absorption capacity. Based finite element analysis software ABAQUS, models under loads established. simulation good agreement with results. Finally, mechanical mechanism was analyzed by model.
